Avoma customers have had the benefit of using Generative AI Notes for the last couple of years. Over the years, I have personally received a lot of positive feedback from many of them on how Avoma Notes helps them save precious time and lets them focus on the conversation instead of taking notes.

But given the speed with which the world around us is changing, we can’t sit on our laurels and be happy with the good stuff. When it comes to building new features in Avoma, our simple rule of thumb is: if something is good, it can definitely be better.

And it’s the reason why I’m thrilled to announce the launch of Avoma 3.0—with better meeting capabilities and increased depth and accuracy of notes to eliminate manual work for all kinds of meetings.

This obviously wouldn’t have been possible without the constant feedback and requests for features that we get everyday from our customers. So to those of you who have stuck with us since our early days of Avoma 1.0—and have offered valuable suggestions to improve Avoma—I say ‘thank you’ on behalf of the entire team in Avoma.

One of the biggest highlights of Avoma 3.0 is the improved Generative AI Notes, now powered by GPT-4 capabilities. To understand why we enhanced Avoma Notes with better AI capabilities, let me first tell you why note taking without AI is a productivity-killer.

Old-school note taking is a daily struggle for knowledge professionals

Note-taking is a key step in every knowledge professional’s daily workflow—and it makes a world of difference to our productivity and performance.

But there’s a problem with the way the majority of us take notes. Take sales professionals, for instance. Our survey indicates that the average salesperson spends ~5 hours each week taking notes manually.

Manual note taking makes it extremely hard for you to jot down every small detail of a meeting. Like every manual process, taking notes manually is also prone to errors. The worst of all—it’s distracting to keep taking notes when you are supposed to fully engage with people in a conversation.

When we launched Avoma, we noticed some fundamental problems that were evident with an average knowledge worker’s daily workflow.

Taking notes while listening is self-sabotaging

Most knowledge workers are great note takers—the process is so ingrained in some people that it has become their second nature. But more often than not, these people are in the elite minority. And it’s not that people who hate taking notes are lethargic—it’s usually the opposite: they barely take notes so that they want to focus fully on the conversation.

Meetings can create silos without a way to bridge them together

Any call or meeting that you don’t record is a black box of information for other teams in your organization. Unfortunately, even the teams that proactively record their calls/meetings don’t leverage it to its full potential because nobody has the time to transcribe them.

Even if your teams are used to taking extensive notes, they don’t have an automated way to share it with the rest of the organization for the greater benefit. Businesses can benefit from an efficient note taking workflow that gives them the highlight of a call/meeting in a digestible format or the ability to store and share them in a central repository.

AI changes the way you take notes

Most business teams make the mistake of confusing technology with efficiency—at least when it comes to note taking. For instance, most sales reps or CSMs we talk to at Avoma don’t use a pen and paper to take notes anymore. They use apps like Microsoft OneNote, Apple Notes, Evernote, or even Google Docs.

Except for saving your notes on the cloud, these apps don’t offer a significant advantage over manual notes. Forget the problems of inaccuracies and distraction, the time-saving benefit they offer is also really marginal.

AI levels the playing field for everyone to focus on what’s most important—engaging with the others in a meeting—rather than worrying about taking notes. AI improves the average of your team’s performance because it allows them to have an AI bot take better, faster, and more accurate notes for them while they fully engage with customers.

With Avoma 3.0’s Generative AI Notes, save 10 minutes per meeting

Avoma has been a pioneer in AI-generated meeting notes for more than four years now, improving the note taking efficiency of hundreds of customers who use Avoma to manage their meetings.

We are now taking Avoma’s note taking capabilities to the next level by combining the power of GPT-4 with our own custom AI models to generate better call/meeting notes. Here’s what it means for you.

Contextual note taking

AI-based note taking can’t translate non-verbal communication—like people’s body language, micro-expressions, or the hesitation in their voice when you tell them about your product pricing. And that lack of context can be a problem if you rely solely on AI.

Avoma solves this problem by allowing human augmentation on top of the AI-generated draft wherever needed. Avoma lets the AI bot take the first draft—saving you precious time from noting everything down manually—and leaves room for you to review and edit the notes.

Avoma leverages AI’s speed and accuracy in note taking and complements it with human judgment because, in business, you can’t optimize efficiency at the cost of human connection.

GPT summarization may be great for summarizing news but that’s not how humans take notes during a meeting.
Simply summarizing what’s spoken in a meeting or call won’t help without understanding the context or giving the right weightage to specific topics and speakers involved.

I can say this with utmost confidence that no other note taking tool—not even the ones with GPT-4 capabilities—has this thought out in their feature offerings. Here’s a look at how Avoma’s AI-generated looks like with the latest GPT-4 enhancement:

Note taking on autopilot

The best part about Avoma Note Taker is that it generates notes in ‘autopilot’ without any human input required. But you still have full control to review and make final edits for the highest quality insights.

Increased productivity

With AI taking notes on your behalf, you can deflect your note taking duty to the AI bot while making more time for yourself to focus on the meeting conversation.

After launching the beta version of the Generative AI notes based on the Open AI GPT-4 capabilities, we ran a survey among our beta users who reported that they saved an average of 10 minutes per meeting on manual note taking and CRM updates.

Better accuracy

Avoma’s transcriptions are 95% accurate—and the same can be extrapolated for its notes. GPT-4 offers a 78% accuracy rate on its language models (not including the factual inaccuracies it makes through the ChatGPT interface).

When you combine those two things together, you have a better-than-ever note taker with  highly-accurate notes.

Centralized notes

The AI-generated notes bridge the communication gap between different GTM functions like marketing, sales, customer success, and product teams because they don’t live in disparate systems across the org. With Avoma, all the customer meetings and their corresponding notes are organized under the same roof that everyone in the organization can access at any time.

Improved collaboration

With AI notes to the rescue, no GTM team has to operate within their functional silos guessing what kind of conversations the other teams are having—internally or with customers. The meeting recording and the easy-to-skim notes are at the tip of their fingertips, no matter when the meeting took place or for how long.

It helps all teams to be on the same page and helps them work as a team to solve their business problems holistically.

“AI notes are changing the way businesses operate. With Avoma, our team now spends more time listening to, and truly absorbing what they learn in meetings,” says Aubreigh Blair, Senior Director, Revenue Operations & Planning at SmartBug.
